The story behind TOKWU
So many ideas once stopped at “if only.”
If only you could turn words you love into an audiobook. If only you could gather your parents’ stories into a memoir. If only you could make a personal documentary from years of photographs and footage.
People have no shortage of things worth expressing. What stops an idea is often everything around it: the software to learn, the skills to master, the people to find and the time it all takes.
AI opens up the possibility of changing those barriers. With the right tools, one person can take on work that once called for several kinds of expertise. Ideas that stayed in someone’s imagination can begin to become real.
That possibility is where our name begins.
The Chinese name 拓宽万物 echoes the sound of “token.” Tokens are basic units of information processed by AI, helping models interpret, generate and bring together text, sound and images. A token is small. Put to work on a concrete problem, it can help someone do one more thing.
We call that “拓宽”: widening what is possible.
Widening a person’s abilities, so unfamiliar technology need not prevent them from creating. Widening the path an idea can take, from imagination to reality. Widening the possibilities of everyday things: words can be heard, memories can become pages, and scattered footage can tell a story again.
“万物” means all things. It leaves room to explore beyond any one tool. Voices, memories and images are our first steps. We want to bring AI to more real tasks, making things that once felt difficult, expensive or out of reach achievable for more people.
